There Are Different Methods of Dental Restoration

Posted .

Restoration dentistry is a specific discipline of dental care that focuses on replacing a tooth that was lost to untreated decay, severe dental trauma, or a treatment-related extraction. The specific methods presented to you by our dental specialists at Forsyth Dental Center in Forsyth, Georgia will be based on the tooth’s location and your personal preference.

If you’ve lost multiple teeth in one part of your mouth and are interested in a removable dental appliance, we might recommend fitting you for a custom, removable partial. This is like a miniature version of dentures designed to replicate the missing teeth. They are set into a pink medium that mimics the natural appearance of your gums.

To permanently replace a single missing tooth, we might recommend a dental implant. This comes in the form of a titanium abutment that is inserted directly into the empty socket in a single outpatient oral surgery. The titanium will eventually fuse to the surrounding bone tissues to create a solid anchor point for an eventual crown.

If you’re only missing a single tooth, we might recommend a piece of bridgework. This is a replica tooth fused to open crowns on each end. This routinely takes two separate appointments. The first prepares the two neighboring teeth as abutment anchors for the bridge. After it’s been created in a dental lab, we will cement the dental work into place with a strong dental adhesive.
